The mother of Donald Trump’s three eldest children and his first wife, Ivana Trump, passed away on Thursday at the age of 73, the former president revealed.
Donald Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Ivana Trump “died away at her residence in New York City.”
The New York Times said that police were looking into whether she fell down the stairs at her Manhattan residence, but he did not specify a cause of death.
A New York Police Department official told AFP in an email (1740 GMT) that officers responded to a complaint at her Upper East Side apartment at about 12:40.
Officers found a 73-year-old woman who was unconscious and unresponsive when they arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS (emergency medical services), according to the spokesperson.
The statement said, “There does not appear to be any crime,” and the cause of death would be determined by the city’s medical examiner.
Ivana Trump “was a fantastic, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a terrific and inspirational life,” wrote Donald Trump, 76, in a social media post.
Her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric, were her pride and delight. She was extremely proud of them, just as we all were of her. “Ivana, Rest In Peace!” he exclaimed.
In 1977, Ivana Trump, a model who was born and raised in the former Czechoslovakia under the communist government, wed Donald Trump, who was just starting out as a real estate developer.
Later that year, Donald Jr., their first child, was born. Eric was born in 1984, and Ivanka two years later.
On Thursday, Eric Trump shared an homage to his mother, who had a successful skiing career as a child in Eastern Europe.
In the post, it was stated that “our mother was a wonderful lady—a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and a caring mother and friend.”
Her mother, her three children, and her ten grandchildren will all miss her greatly, he continued.
The Trumps were one of the most well-known couples in New York throughout the 1980s, and their opulent way of life perfectly encapsulated the decade’s showy excesses.
As Donald Trump’s real estate empire expanded, Ivana Trump assumed a number of significant positions inside the company, which increased their influence and notoriety.
Their public breakup, which was alleged to have been influenced by Donald Trump’s relationship with Marla Maples, gave New York’s tabloids plenty of juicy material.
Early in the 1990s, Donald Trump and Ivana Trump got divorced, and in 1993, the future president wed Maples.
Ivana Trump later enjoyed a prosperous business career of her own, creating apparel, jewelry, and beauty goods as well as writing several books.
In 1999, Donald Trump and Maples were married. Melania Trump, his third and current wife, was married to him in 2005.
Ivana Trump was married four times before and twice after her marriage to Donald Trump.
