WASHINGTON – The Washington Nationals scratched outfielder Bryce Harper from Thursday’s lineup with correct knee soreness.
Atlanta reliever Dan Winkler hit Harper barely under one of the best knee inside the seventh inning of the Braves’ Eight-Three victory on Wednesday. Washington supervisor Dave Martinez said X-rays on Harper have been detrimental.
“We thought he was going to be OK,” Martinez said. “He was in the marketplace making an attempt to get unfastened this morning, and easily couldn’t get unfastened. It was pretty swollen. So fairly than him making an attempt to play by it, we thought your best option could possibly be having him come off the bench if we might like him.
“He’ll hold in and get treatment.”
Harper, the 2015 Nationwide League MVP and a six-time All-Star, is hitting .234 with 28 residence runs and 71 RBIs. He leads the NL in walks (88) and ranks third inside the league in homers.
Michael Taylor modified Harper inside the lineup in center.
