Olivia Rodrigo sings a song on stage for the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade
Olivia Rodrigo spoke her opinions regarding the five Supreme Court judges who contributed to the overturning of Roe v. Wade loud and clear while performing on stage in front of nearly 200,000 spectators.
The California-born pop star said onstage at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival in England on June 25, a day after the top court’s 5-4 decision to overturn the seminal 1973 decision that established women’s constitutional right to abortion in the United States, “I want to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who showed us that, at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a s—t about freedom.”
Rodrigo went on: “To the judges, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh, this song is dedicated.” We abhor you. “
The British star’s 2009 song “F—k you” was then performed by the singer and guest co-performer Lily Allen. Many audience members imitated Allen’s middle finger motions while singing along.
At the festival, which the BBC streamed live, Olivia expressed her shock and terror over the decision, saying that “so many women and so many girls are going to die” as a result.
Even though the United States is politically divided, many people liked the Supreme Court’s decision. However, opponents of the decision, including Taylor Swift, Padma Lakshmi, and Shonda Rhimes, protested and spoke out against it in public.
And Rodrigo is not the first celebrity to speak out publicly against the Supreme Court’s decision. “F—k the Supreme Court!”
was shouted by the audience as Phoebe Bridgers was performing at Glastonbury on June 24. She said to the crowd, “That crap is f—k. America is s**t. “I mean, f— you.” are being told what to do with our f-king bodies by all these irrelevant old motherf—kers.”
On the festival stage that day, Billie Eilish, a fellow Glastonbury singer, said: “For American women, today is a really bad day.” I’m just going to say that because I’m too sick of thinking about it right now. “
