In the most recent teaser for the 94th Academy Awards, hostesses Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes prepare for the big day by comparing themselves to previous nominees.
“We just have to outdo last year’s host,” Sykes says as the three ladies drink wine around the kitchen table. “God, they must have terrible,” she continues, as Schumer adds, “I don’t even remember last year’s host.”
“There wasn’t a host last year… or the year before… or the year before,” Hall realizes. Comedy three ecstatically applauds this insight. “Boom! “We’re already winning,” Sykes says, adding, “We’re nailing it!”
The 2019 Oscars ceremony will take place on March 27, and it will be the first time since Jimmy Kimmel hosted the event in 2018. Kevin Hart was supposed to headline in 2019, but after previous homophobic statements surfaced, the actor-comedian stepped away. Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the show carried on without a host that year, and it did so again in 2020 and 2021.
Will Packer (Girls Trip) is scheduled to produce this year’s Academy Awards, which will see the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, reopen to full capacity.
The Netflix drama The Power of the Dog leads the field with 12 nominations, followed by the sci-fi epic Dune with ten. CODA, Belfast, Drive My Car, West Side Story, and Licorice Pizza are among the other strong contenders.
