Rafael Nadal and his wife, Mery “Xisca” Perelló, have confirmed that they are expecting their first child
Rafael Nadal has made history in tennis, but he’s about to embark on the most thrilling chapter of his life: parenthood.
The Spanish tennis player, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles in his career, announced in a news conference on June 17 that he and his wife, Mery “Xisca” Perelló, are expecting their first child together.
“I’m going to be a parent if everything goes well,” he told People.
Despite the fact that the 36-year-old, who married Perelló in October 2019, keeps his personal life secret, he did tell reporters, “I don’t know what will change in my life because I don’t have experience [with parenthood], but I don’t think it will impact my professional life.”
In fact, during the same Mallorca press conference, Nadal declared that he would compete in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships later this month. It will be his first tournament appearance in three years.
While Nadal recently won the 2022 French Open, he has been suffering from Mueller-Weiss syndrome in his foot.
However, Nadal stated in the press conference that he had noticed “notable” changes after having therapy in Barcelona, telling reporters that “my joint pain has improved,” according to ESPN.
“My plan is to play Wimbledon and travel to London on Monday,” he stated. “It is too early to offer a firm answer,” he conceded, albeit only time will tell how his foot will feel ahead of the event.
My foot problem must be examined on a daily basis,” he explained, “so I don’t have this surety of being able to play right now.” I only know that I want to participate in the competition, but we must exercise caution. “
