Stephen Fulton takes control of the situation and wins by a score of UD over Daniel Roman

The WBC and WBO super bantamweight champion, Stephen Fulton, defended his titles against Daniel Roman in a perfect fight.

On Saturday, June 4, super bantamweight boxing champion Stephen Fulton fought former champion Daniel Roman at The Armory in Minneapolis, MN. Fulton did a great job and kept his perfect record.

Fulton (21-0, 8 KOs) won his 21st fight and successfully defended his title for the second time. Roman (29-4-1, 10 KOs) was a tough opponent all night, but he seemed to be a step behind.

Fulton told Fansided before the fight that he was superior to Roman both inside and outside the ring. Character is hard to judge outside of the ring, but once inside, it was clear that Fulton was the more complete boxer.

Fulton won the bout by fighting backwards for most of the battle. Roman attempted to apply pressure, but Fulton’s quick hands scored frequently, while Roman missed.

Fulton’s jab was lightning quick and held Roman at bay for the majority of the fight. Roman had his moments, but he couldn’t sustain a sustained offense.

Stephen Fulton successfully defended his super bantamweight championship against Daniel Roman and now faces Murodjon Akhmadaliev

Fulton’s stamina allowed him to pump his fists and prance around the ring. Roman was outworked and out-landed by him.

The bout was scored 119-109 by the judges, with two scores of 120-108 for Fulton. The ratings were excessively disparate and did not reflect Roman’s competitiveness. Fulton was predicted to win 117-111 by FanSided.

Fulton’s career is still moving forward at the age of 27. Before the fight, he told FanSided that he believed a unification bout with IBF and WBA champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev was possible. The winner of the hypothetical fight would be crowned super bantamweight champion.

Roman, who is 32 years old, seems to be in excellent enough shape to challenge for another world championship. He had held the WBA and IBF titles, but given the level of skill in the division, he may never be a champion again.

If he doesn’t get Akhmadaliev next, Fulton could step up to featherweight. He has choices and has proven himself to be one of the top fighters on the planet.
