Ravens Make Sure To Lock Up John Harbaugh With Extension

The Baltimore Ravens sensibly extended head coach John Harbaugh’s contract for another three years.

The Baltimore Ravens renewed head coach John Harbaugh’s contract for three more seasons on Tuesday afternoon.

Since the 2008 NFL season, Harbaugh has been with the Ravens. In 2012, he led the team to their most recent Super Bowl victory.

Harbaugh has about as much job security as any head coach in the NFL, with Lamar Jackson in his prime as the team’s franchise quarterback. He was in the midst of a contract year this season, but he appears to be on track to be the NFL’s third-longest-serving head coach.

Only Bill Belichick (New England Patriots) and Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers) have spent more time with their respective teams than Harbaugh.

Ravens signed coach John Harbaugh to a 3-year contract extension, owner Steve Bisciotti announced.

Harbaugh was entering the final year of a deal. He’s signed through 2025.

Entering his 15th season, Harbaugh is the NFL’s third-longest tenured active coach.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has been extended until the 2022 NFL season

Baltimore has been one of the better organized businesses in the NFL since leaving Cleveland and becoming the Ravens in 1996.

While they haven’t always had one of the greatest offenses in the league, they have a strong cultural identity built on superb defensive play and exceptional talent evaluation during the draft process. It makes Harbaugh’s job easier.

Harbaugh: No coach should ever enter a season with a contract that is about to expire, especially one as long-serving as Harbaugh’s. The Cincinnati Bengals won the AFC North in Joe Burrow’s second season in the Queen City, despite Baltimore being one of the best teams in the division. Staying relevant in the NFL’s black and blue division will require consistency.

In the end, it seemed odder that Harbaugh’s contract had not been extended beyond this season than that he had gotten three more years added to his existing arrangement with the team.

He’s a Super Bowl champion coach who nearly never has a terrible club in Baltimore. It’s not that Harbaugh has a lifelong contract with Baltimore, but it appears like he will continue to coach there indefinitely.

This contract extension relieves Harbaugh of the stress of having to lead the Ravens to the playoffs in 2022, which he had to do before this deal.
