Inside Secretary Ryan Zinke has named a retired park superintendent as performing director of the Nationwide Park Service.
P. Daniel Smith retired in 2015 after serving as superintendent of Colonial Nationwide Historic Park in Virginia. Smith gained notoriety after serving to Washington Redskins proprietor Daniel Snyder reduce down timber close to his house alongside the Potomac River. An inspector basic’s report stated Smith pressured officers to approve a 2004 deal that disregarded federal environmental legal guidelines. Smith was an assistant to the park service director on the time.
Zinke named Smith as deputy director Jan. 9 and stated Wednesday he’ll lead the company till a everlasting director is nominated by President Donald Trump and confirmed by the Senate.
Zinke stated he “can consider nobody higher geared up to assist lead our efforts.”
