Henry Cavill has been contacted by Warner Brothers to reprise his role as Superman, but is it already too late?

It’s no secret that Warner Brothers has struggled with the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Despite recent box office hits like Aquaman, Shazam, and The Suicide Squad, the trajectory of the larger cinematic universe has, at best, been problematic.

Batman, Wonder Woman, and, of course, the Man of Steel, Superman, are some of the strongest characters that DC has to offer, but Warner Brothers has struggled to utilize them.

In order to launch its cinematic universe, the DCEU cast Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel in 2013. Since then, Cavill has made three appearances in various DCEU films, albeit he has never really worn the Superman outfit.

Although there have been conflicting opinions on DCEU films like Justice League and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the general agreement is that Cavill makes a fantastic Superman despite having appeared in some subpar films.

Fans have held this belief for a while, but Warner Brothers didn’t appear to understand it until lately, as news sources now claim that the studio is scrambling to re-book Cavill to reprise his role as Superman.

Since Cavill hasn’t had any indication from the studio for years that they have any plans for his Superman, it seems logical that he’s no longer interested in donning the red cape, according to sources.

In addition to filming the third season of his wildly popular series The Witcher, Cavill is also scheduled to participate in the upcoming movies Argylle and Enola Holmes 2.

It is obvious that Cavill has a lot on his plate given the rumors that he could be the next James Bond. It’s difficult to predict whether Cavill will heed Warner Brother’s calls given the potential on one hand and the shady studio’s historically dubious ambitions for, granted, a fantastic character on the other.

Fans will only have to wait and see, but Warner Brothers’ future plans would surely suffer if Cavill had to be replaced as Superman.
