In ‘The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder,’ Tina Lawson makes her voice acting debut

Tina Lawson is packed and bustling on the streets of Hollywood! She added a first-time gig to her entertainment resume not long after starting her own Facebook Watch series, Talks with Mama Tina.

Early Tuesday, Tina announced her first voice-acting position in The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder series on Instagram.

“I had so much fun voicing Ms. Gina who is really kind of Ms.Tina,” she wrote on Instagram along with an episode preview. “I cannot wait to watch this with my grandkids they love the show! The old one and the new one.”

Ms. Tina’s persona appears to be a hair salon owner with ties to the Proud Family, specifically Suga Mama. According to the episode teaser, Penny and her friends are said to be visiting the shop to arrange for LaCienega Boulevardez’s quinceanera.

She isn’t a fan of the birthday girl’s hairstyle, but she agrees to do the “difficult” work because “it’s your day, chile,” she says.

For A New Generation, A New Show

The louder-and-prouder relaunch was announced in February 2020, more than a decade after The Proud Family Movie terminated the series.

In the first episode, Kyla Pratt played Penny Proud and Tommy Davidson played Oscar Proud. So far, most of the original cast has joined the Disney+ show.

The position brings back memories for Ms. Tina. The mother of superstars Beyoncé and Solange was familiar with the original show–to the point of enjoying it alone–like many of us.

“I also watched the show with and without my children. So it brings it full circle for me to do a voice over thanks to my good friend Ralph Farquhar Producer along with his partner Bruce W. Smith the creator,” Tina said.

The show also has plans to host a number of new-age guests in addition to Ms. Tina. According to Newsweek, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Tiffany Haddish, Marsai Martin, Normani, Jaden Smith, and Bretman Rock are just a handful of the celebrities on the guest list.

On February 23, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder premiered. On April 13, Ms. Tina’s program will be available to watch online.
