Lili Reinhart is standing up for Shannon Purser following final week’s episode of Riverdale.
The 22-year-old actress responded to fan backlash in opposition to Purser, her good friend and co-star on The CW sequence, in a tweet Tuesday.
Purser was the goal of on-line hate after her character, Ethel Muggs, kissed Betty Cooper’s (Reinhart) on-again, off-again beau Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) in the course of the Oct. 24 episode.

“Bughead” shippers, or followers of Betty and Jughead’s relationship, referred to as Purser “fats” and “ugly” after the kiss aired final week. The 21-year-old actress addressed the backlash in since-deleted tweets.
“all of the stans who lastly really feel snug calling me fats/ugly now that Ethel has interfered with their ship,” Purser wrote, in line with PopBuzz.
“I am not pressured about it, belief me. I simply marvel what these individuals will assume in like 10 yrs after they keep in mind their twitter and understand they insulted and attacked actual human beings for his or her character on a television present…” she added.
Riverdale airs Wednesdays on The CW. The sequence co-stars KJ Apa, Camila Mendes, Marisol Nichols, Mark Consuelos and Madelaine Petsch.
