Maverick might soon overtake Titanic

The most popular movie of 2022 was Top Gun: Maverick, and it doesn’t appear that any new movies will overtake it very soon.

However, considering how many records this film is breaking, the label “biggest grossing movie of the year” doesn’t seem adequate. The movie has surpassed all previous records for Tom Cruise, Paramount, and box office take, and it is currently in the top 20 highest-grossing movies of all time.

Top Gun: Maverick is currently attempting a new record. It aims to unseat Titanic from the number 7 position in the top 10 highest-grossing films at the domestic box office.

Top Gun: Maverick had a domestic box office total of $657 million and is still playing in theaters nationwide, while Titanic is known to have made $659 million domestically.

Given that Titanic hasn’t been seen in theaters for more than 20 years, it’s probable that Top Gun: Maverick will soon surpass the $659 million mark and move up to the seventh-highest place in American box office history.

The plot of this narrative has a twist, though. As a remastered version of Titanic will be released in theaters in 2023 to celebrate the movie’s 25th anniversary, Titanic may be able to reclaim its position as the top movie of the year in 2019. Will it entice many reminiscence fans back to the theaters? There’s a good chance it will.

Given that Top Gun: Maverick is a sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun, nostalgia played a part in the movie’s popularity as well.

Tom Cruise played Maverick in the first movie, a position he repeated for the sequel, while Miles Teller, Glen Powell, and Jay Ellis were added to the cast as new actors.

The stories of the movies also had a lot of connections. In Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise’s character Pete Mitchell, also known as Maverick, trains Bradley Bradshaw, also known as Rooster, who is the son of Nick Bradshaw, also known as Goose, and Pete’s best friend from the first movie.
