COVID-19’s New Omicron Variant BA.2 Is Now The Leading Version And Is Classified As “Highly Contagious.”
According to current research, the most dominant strain of COVID-19 in the United States is the latest iteration of the Omicron variation, known as BA.2. The new Omicron strain is responsible for more than half of all new cases, and health authorities have labeled it “extremely contagious.”
BA.2, the novel Omicron variation that has caused a surge in new COVID-19 cases in Europe, has now surpassed the United States as the most prevalent virus in the country.
Most recent data comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which says that soon, BA.2 will be the most common type in the United States. The head of the CDC, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, thinks that will happen soon.
The first case of BA.2 was discovered in the United States in December.
Meanwhile, scientists have been keeping a close eye on BA.2, the third of the Omicron variety of COVID-19’s genetically unique types.
BA.2’s rapid development is owing in part to its eight gene alterations that cause protein spikes on the virus’s surface, which were not present in the prior strain, BA.1.
The fact that BA.2 is more spreadable than BA.1 doesn’t mean that it causes more severe illness, and vaccines have been found to protect against the worst.
Many US health authorities expect the number of cases to climb, and they are blaming Americans for not doing enough to prevent another COVID-19 outbreak.
