Kevin Durant weighed in on the Boston Celtics’ animosity against Kyrie Irving and Irving’s retaliation.
Reporters questioned Kevin Durant about Kyrie Irving’s reaction to the Boston Celtics’ crowd during Game 1 of the playoffs. Irving’s reaction to the fans, he explained, was due to his not being in the mood.
“Everybody has different moods, some days he might be up for it, and some days he might not,” Durant told reporters…..”He might not be in the mood for it next game, who knows.”
In Game One of the playoffs, the Brooklyn Nets faced the Boston Celtics, and there were occasions during the game when Kyrie Irving was captured going back and forth with supporters.
In one incident, Irving gave one of the fans in the audience the middle finger. Another time was when Irving cursed at a fan as he headed back to the locker room after the fan told him he was a jerk.
During his postgame interview, Irving was asked about these occurrences and stated that he was just keeping the same energy.
“Look, where I’m from, I’m used to all these antics and people being close nearby. It’s nothing new when I come into this building what it’s going to be like, but it’s the same energy they had for me, and I’m going to have the same energy for them,” Irving said.

The Celtics’ fans’ animosity towards Kyrie is founded on love, according to Durant.
“It’s rooted in love. They once loved you, they once cheered for you and bought your merchandise, had life altering experiences coming to games watching you play. So when it kind of gets ripped from them in something like a trade or demanding a trade or wanting to leave, they feel like a piece of them is gone too.”
Irving informed the Celtics that he would re-sign with them before the start of the 2018 season. He departed Boston after his contract ended to join the Nets.
Fans are understandably outraged, and the booing directed at Irving every time he receives the ball is unlikely to abate anytime soon.
