Leukemia has been discovered in Texans rookie and former Alabama great John Metchie III
John Metchie III, a rookie with the Houston Texans and a former standout quarterback for Alabama, has leukemia.
Considering that the former Alabama football star has been given a leukemia diagnosis, John Metchie III is not anticipated to participate at all during his debut season with the Houston Texans.
In order to choose the former Crimson Tide wide receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft, Houston made a trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up to pick No. 44. Metchie, an exceptional player at Alabama, had his college career cut short when he tore his ACL during the victory over the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game. Despite his diagnosis, Metchie did note in his official statement that he is “in excellent spirits.”
“Recently I was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), the most curable form of Leukemia,” said Metchie in a statement released by the Texans. “I am currently receiving great medical care, am in good spirits and I expect to make a recovery at a later point in time. As a result of this diagnosis, I will likely not be playing football this season. My main focus will be on my health and recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and well-wishes. While we wish Metchie well in his fight with blood cancer, it is unfortunate that his NFL career has been temporarily suspended.
For the majority of the past ten years, Alabama has been Wide Receiver U. Metchie would have gone in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft if he hadn’t ruptured his ACL. Even though he shared a team with Jameson Williams the previous year, Metchie was well-known.
Metchie had 96 catches for 1,142 receiving yards and eight trips to the end zone prior to getting wounded last season.
He was a highly valued chess piece on the football field because he was versatile in the receiving game and could accomplish a little bit of everything. Sadly, he will now have to engage in the most difficult battle of his life. All those who knew Metchie are likely to think of him.
