Emma Mackey Discusses The Unexpected Tone Of The Upcoming Live-Action Barbie Movie
Audiences have been avidly anticipating the next live-action Barbie movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2023, ever since the first stills from the film surfaced earlier this summer, depicting Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.
After much anticipation, the cast for the long-awaited film has officially been made public. Along with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the movie also stars Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Will Ferrell in the part of some villainous business suit-wearing villain.
Emma Mackey, who received her big break from the popular Netflix series Sex Education, was cast in an unnamed role but has stated that she is very excited to be a part of the film.
Like everyone else who has spoken about the film thus far, she has stated that the movie is taking an unexpected direction and it will not be anything that you expect a Barbie live-action film to be, but in a good way!
When discussing her most recent movie Emily with Total Film, the subject of Barbie came up, and Emma gave the following response:
“It comes as a huge surprise in many ways. People will likely have an impression of the movie, and it won’t be that, in my opinion. It will come as a surprise.
I’m quite enthusiastic. And, thank God, it’s a comedy. There is no crying in this movie! I’ll tell you that now. Do not weep! It was wonderful to perform pure comedy, particularly American comedy. I have had the chance to work with several heroes.”
Emma joins the group of others who have said the same thing about the movie being surprising. Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig, the film’s director, had made the same claim.
The movie is now scheduled for release on July 21, 2023, and fans can’t wait to see what this latest iteration of the Mattel doll’s on-screen visage has in store for them.
