Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, came to the 2022 Academy Awards dressed to the nines. Will wanted all the smoke with Chris Rock, who made a joke about Jada’s haircut, despite his immaculate attire.
Chris took the stage to present the Academy Award for Best Documentary, and he greeted the audience with a few jokes in true Chris Rock flair.
The comedian eventually switched his focus to Jada Pinkett-Smith, sarcastically asking if she would like to star in a remake of “G.I. Jane” because of her bald hairdo. Will laughed off Chris’ remark at first, but quickly changed his mind and approached him on stage.
As Will stormed onto the stage and slapped Chris across the face, the Oscars audience was taken aback. Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth!” Will told Chris as he made his way back to his seat.
Chris Rock continued to uncomfortably present the trophy to QuestLove.
While it’s unclear why Will decided to get physical on public television, it’s possible he was protecting his wife from an ill-advised comment regarding Jada’s health. Jada Pinkett-Smith recently opened up about her fight with alopecia, as we previously reported.
Jada said she started losing “handfuls of her hair” and had to cover it up with head covers at first. She ultimately chose to shave her head entirely bald.
