Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi are set to star in a Spy Kids reboot

Here’s some breaking news we can’t keep quiet: Netflix is getting a Spy Kids reboot.

On June 23, the streaming service announced that another film in the family-friendly spy franchise, which debuted with the first installment in 2001, is in the works.

Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Everly Carganilla, and Connor Esterson will star in the upcoming film. The foursome will form the next espionage-centric family.

Robert Rodriguez, the original creator and director of the series, will be in charge of the upcoming movie. It will be his second family movie for Netflix, after the action movie We Can Be Heroes, which will come out in 2020.

Fans of the early 2000s may recall that actors Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara became household names (and instant heroes) when they starred in the original 2001 film as the super-cool kids on a mission to help mom and dad (Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino).

Since then, three more installments have been released, with the fourth one promising to be just as good as the previous ones.

“When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly assist a powerful game developer in unleashing a computer virus that gives him control of all technology,” according to a press release outlining the plot. “They must train to be spies in order to save their parents and the world.”

And, while there is no set date, we will be on the edge of our seats. Until then, keep reading for an update on the original film’s stars. Read More
