After an embarrassing slide against the Red Sox, Byron Buxton was yanked from the Twins lineup
Byron Buxton, the star of the Minnesota Twins, just can’t seem to stay healthy. He was taken from Friday’s game against the Boston Red Sox after an ugly slip.
Since the 2017 season, Byron Buxton hasn’t appeared in more than 100 games. Despite being one of baseball’s most gifted outfielders, he has yet to make an All-Star squad, in part owing to his inability to stay healthy. Despite this, the Twins spent a lot of money to re-sign him this offseason.
Buxton has a long record of injuries on his resume. It’s best not to think about it. But, after a strong start to the 2022 season, the 28-year-old can’t seem to remain healthy.
In just three games through the opening weekend, he had three home runs and four RBIs. Buxton’s performance was expected to soar now that Carlos Correa and other big names were protecting him in the lineup for the first time.
Byron Buxton is hurt in the Twins’ game against the Red Sox
Buxton got lucky with a fielding mistake on a routine pop-up to Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story. He then sped around the bases for a frantic double.
His slide onto second base, however, was less than graceful, and he was forced to leave the game. According to Dan Hayes, here’s the latest:
“Byron Buxton hurt himself sliding into second base on a leadoff pop up double. He knew it right away, slapped the ground as he finished his slide. Walked off under own power”
We can only hope the injury was modest, given that he was able to walk away on his own.
