In a one-sided fight, Shavkat Rakhmonov submits to Neil Magny


Neil Magny was defeated by Shavkat Rakhmonov via submission (guillotine choke), Round 2 – 4:57 at UFC Vegas 57 on Saturday, June 25, 2022, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV.

Neil Magny was excellent. That’s why I took my time… I knew I was going to win, so I didn’t rush… You’ve heard of me, Dana White. I’ll be a UFC champion in a year or two.

“Stephen Thompson, you’re up next,” said Rakhmonov, who began the interview with the assistance of a translator and finished by addressing Thompson in English.

Rakhmonov deflected a Magny body kick with his right hand. Rakhmonov jumped on top of Magny and landed several powerful punches. Magny landed a powerful up-kick but was unable to get back to his feet.

Rakhmonov used punches to the body and the head alternately. Rakhmonov landed a heavy elbow on Magny, who was unable to get up. Magny grabbed Rakhmonov’s ankle but was unable to lock in a submission.

Rakhmonov landed a pair of jabs after catching another body kick. Rakhmonov struck the body with a powerful spin kick. Rakhmonov tripped Magny and took top position as the two fighters clinched against the cage.

Magny did an excellent job defending and preventing Rakhmonov from hitting any more big shots. Rakhmonov maintained control of the situation, denying Magny any chance of rising to his feet. In the final minute of the round, Rakhmonov landed several powerful punches.

With less than 15 seconds left in the round, Rakhmonov put Magny in a guillotine choke. With only three seconds left, Magny had to tap out.

Magny entered the Octagon for the 27th time since his UFC debut on February 23, 2013 at UFC 157. The UFC’s 10th-ranked welterweight came into the fight riding a two-fight winning streak and having won five of his previous six fights. If he won, Magny would have surpassed Georges St-record Pierre’s for the most welterweight division wins.

Rakhmonov entered the Octagon ranked 15th in the welterweight division. Prior to the fight with Magny, the undefeated prospect had defeated all 15 of his opponents. Rakhmonov won his first three UFC fights. Rakhmonov got a bonus for having the best fight of the night because he knocked out Carlston Harris in his last fight.
