Will Smith apologizes to the Academy and his fellow nominees after a physical altercation with Chris Rock
Will Smith apologized to the Academy and all of his fellow nominees during his Best Actor winning speech after physically assaulting Chris Rock on stage.
Will Smith returned to the stage to accept his Best Actor award and apologized, just hours after shocking the audience and watchers at home when he walked up to Chris Rock and smacked him in the face.
Will Smith apologized to everyone except Chris Rock, after crying during his entire address, saying:
“I’d like to apologize to the Academy, as well as all of my fellow nominees.” This is a great moment, and I’m not sobbing because I didn’t get an award; I’m not crying because I didn’t win an award. “
Will Smith went on to say:
“Art imitates life, and I resemble my crazed father.” Love will drive you to do irrational things. I understand that in order to do what we do, you must be able to take abuse and have others gossip about you. You have to put up with people disrespecting you in this profession, and you have to act as if it’s OK.
At your highest moment, be careful, because that’s when the devil comes for you, “Denzel Washington stated only a few minutes ago.
Will Smith won his first Academy Award for Best Actor, as we previously reported. He was nominated for his role as the father of Venus and Serena Williams in the film “King Richard,” for which he received an Academy Award nomination. For his work in a movie, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Part.
