Fantasia is overjoyed to be cast as Celie in the upcoming film adaptation of “The Color Purple.”

On Thursday night, Fantasia was overjoyed when she received the call of a lifetime! As ‘Celie,’ Ms. Barrino will join the cast of the upcoming version of ‘The Color Purple.’ In an Instagram post, she expressed her gratitude.

“As I sit here now and ponder on the route my life has gone, I believe I have finally grasped what true Redemption feels like,” she wrote. “The similarities between what I portrayed on stage and what I experienced in my own reality were too near for comfort the last time I stepped into the character.”

Fantasia talked about how she’s grown as a person over the years and how pleased she is to put that growth to work in this capacity.

“Since then, I’ve come to realize that my suffering was really a prelude to a higher purpose or meaning and assignment.” I pray that every little black girl trying to be heard and recognized vows to never give up, no matter what it takes.”

Fantasia already played Celie in the Broadway production of the film in 2007, and she previously acknowledged how difficult the role was.

“If you actually put yourself in her shoes,” she told Playbill.com, “it can be really tiring.” “It can drain a lot of your energy.” I know I’m exhausted when I go off the stage late at night after a gig. I dash to my room and collapse on the couch, where I must spend at least 10 minutes winding down, gathering my thoughts, and exiting the role of Celie.”

Taraji P. Henson, Corey Hawkins, and H.E.R. will all be joining the cast, as previously announced.
